Energy Drinks May Stimulate Excessive Bleeding

Posted .

A recent article published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (2012) reports that frequent consumption of energy drinks may lead to excessive bleeding in some people. Energy drinks, including Monster, Reload and Hype contain caffeine and certain herbs such as ginseng and guarana seed extract. These herbs have been shown to decrease clotting and increase bleeding time with surgical or other wounds. If you have surgery planned or are having issues with poor healing, make sure your physician or dentist knows about consumption of energy drinks.
